Heritage Orchestra @ De La Warr Pavilion, Marina, Bexhill on Sea, East Sussex, TN40 1DP
Saturday November 14th
£14
www.dlwp.com

A major event to launch a new partnership between the De La Warr Pavilion and the Heritage Orchestra – “a blast of fresh air across the orchestral landscape” – Heritage Orchestra is a 21st century orchestra comprising young, forward-thinking musicians and composers. Powerful and daring, their collaborative approach and modern production values have set them on a new path that bridges the worlds of mainstream, cult, experimental, and popular art and music. Recent collaborations include Massive Attack, The Bays, UNKLE and Dizzee Rascal where their amplified sound has allowed them to experiment in electronica, hip-hop, sci-fi noir and contemporary classical. In this one-off concert conducted by Jules Buckley, the live improvisation between orchestra and musical artists will be highly-charged and totally unique.

Part 1
“Gabriel Prokofiev’¬s Concerto for Turntables”
Heritage Orchestra feat. Gabriel Prokofiev and DJ Switch

Part 2
A risk-taking performance with human beatboxer and musical maestro Beardyman.

DJ Switch
As a four time national DJ battle champion and current world champion , DJ Switch’s shows contain a repertoire of spectacular visual tricks that astonish and delight the crowd.

Gabriel Prokofiev
Grandson of Russian composer and founder of record label Nonclassical, Prokofiev is a force to be reckoned with. On a mission to break down and repackage classical music for new audiences, this eclectic composer has worked on numerous underground and music projects as well as producing his own hip-hop and electro remixes.

Beardyman
World-class solo human beatbox, Beardyman uses his voice and live synths driven through cutting edge sound technology to create dance-inducing layered rhythms. Fully produced songs are improvised and created entirely from scratch make for a breathtaking soundscape.

WANG is 10!

This November, WANG will have been putting on parties for 10 years!

To say a huge thanks to all you WANGers that have supported us over the years by coming to our parties, and for all the amazing times you have given us, we will be celebrating in the only way we know how, with a great big dirty warehouse rave party!

We are currently hard at work planning are most outrageous party yet..
We feel the line-up reflects some of the highlights of the last 10 years.
You can rest assured that all the sound systems will be totally unrestricted and firing on all cylinders with the sweetest heavy heavy bass sounds that make your nose twitch and your eyeballs vibrate!

Since the very start of WANG we have had a strong presence of mind-bending visuals to take your brain to another dimension and for 10th birthday party we’ve upped the ante yet again, with the largest old-school TV video wall seen since the 1980’s, featuring over 1.5 tonnes of TV screens. We will also have enough lights, lasers and strobes and blind a small army.

Spawned in the sprawling urban metropolis of York, Viewer is an electro-indie two piece comprising of Tim Wright (composer & producer) and Andy Johnson (vocalist & lyricist).

The pair met in their local hostelry when both were pursuing separate projects. Years on and several pints down the line, they decided to work on a track together. Inspired by the result, they recorded a further song and were signed to Stopstart records on the strength of these two offerings. They have since been writing new material and honing their style and sound.

Tim Wright has been releasing his inimitable brand of electronic music since the early 1990s. Under his own name and such pseudonyms as Tube Jerk, Germ and Pin he has attracted the support of some of the key labels in the field, with 12″ and album releases on Mute, Tresor, Soul Jazz and PIAS amongst others. He has remixed artists as diverse as the Ceramic Hobs, Laurent Garnier and Goldfrapp and performed live extensively throughout Europe and in the US, Australia and Japan.

Andy Johnson has fronted a number of bands since the mid 1990s and played at various venues around the UK. His witty kitchen-sink commentary delivered in a style described as ‘reminiscent of Lou Reed’s junkie punk drawl’ [: Here Magazine] both compliments and contrasts Tim’s bass-heavy backdrop, creating a unique and irresistible dance floor sound.

1. Wizards In Dub Part 1
2. Wizards In Dub Part 2

Brand new remixes from dubstep pioneer Shackleton on this, the début release from Less Music. It’s the brand new sister label to This Is Music (who’s releases last year included Mujava’s “Township Funk“, Graham Massey’s “Sisters Of Transistors” and riff heavy metallers Invasion), A&R’d by This Is Music’s very own Luke Williams, and dedicated to releasing music too esoteric for the main label. This completes a trio: This Is Music, More Music (which will focus on all things dance music) and Less Music.

“Wizards In Dub” is a two part remix / rework, which comprises elements from two different tracks: “Follow The Smoke” and “Six Red Wizards“, taken from Invasion’s début album “The Master Alchemist“. This album was recorded in 4 days at Toerag studios in Hackney all to tape, and the parts were sent to Shackleton with a brief to do whatever he wanted.

He’s come up with a slice of future minimal dub, featuring layered vocals that move in and out of phase over distorted feedback loops. If you require any further info on this project please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

TITLE: 10 Years of Technique / ARTIST: Various / LABEL: Technique / RELEASE DATE: 30th November 2009

There aren’t many labels in drum & bass – or indeed the rest of the industry – that can claim 10 years on the scene. Throughout jungle’s history, countless imprints have come and gone without leaving a lasting legacy. Only the strongest survive, and this year Technique Recordings joins that elite list, celebrating a decade on the dancefloor.

The brainchild of Drumsound & Bassline Smith, Technique Recordings (with its sister offshoot Worldwide Audio) has become one of the most consistent and successful imprints around. From the trio’s first single “Future Tech”, through the undisputed anthems “Junglist” (which reached number 60 in the national charts) and “Cold Turkey”, to recent smashes “Body Pump” and “Belly Dancer”, it’s maintained a constant presence on the world’s dancefloors, receiving rotation from most top DJs on the planet. The label is also home to exciting artists from throughout the globe such as Phetsta from Australia, and home-grown talents Youngman, Tantrum Desire and Technicolour.

To celebrate this landmark in their history, Derby’s finest have curated a very special album project. Across 15 tracks, “10 Years of Technique” gives you a flavour of why the label has continued to flourish, and showcases the myriad styles drum & bass has to offer, from heavy dancefloor smashers and sweet liquid funk, to house-inspired spine-tinglers and naughty nods back to old-school jungle’s history. Some of the labels biggest tracks have been given exclusive remixes, there are fresh tunes never heard before, and all members of the Technique family have provided their talents to make this an album for lovers of quality drum & bass in all its forms. Here’s to the next 10 years.

It promises to mark the labels birthday in spectacular fashion, and put down a marker for the next 10 years. Rest assured, Technique have only just gotten started.

TITLE: 15 Year of Metalheadz / ARTIST: Various / LABEL: Metalheads / RELEASE DATE: 30th November 2009

To many people, Metalheadz needs little introduction. The pioneering drum and bass record label was founded in 1993 by Doc Scott and Goldie, and has been home to some of the drum and bass scene’s brightest talent. The Metalheadz back catalogue features almost every major figure in the history of the genre, with artists such as Photek, Dillinja, Adam F, Source Direct, Ed Rush & Optical contributing major productions to the imprint.

Additionally, Metalheadz released the groundbreaking Platinum Breaks series of compilations, hailed by critics as the uniquely futuristic sound of young, multiracial Britain. They showcased a maturing genre of music that displayed the influences of reggae, hip-hop, house and techno that is highly-sophisticated and intricately-produced, and quite contrary to the image of the music that had been presented by the mass media up to that point. Before their release, drum and bass compilations had been more closely associated with live DJ mix albums of varying quality, and the interest in the Platimum Breaks series proved instrumental in bringing the scene from its underground origins to the brink of mainstream success (at least in the UK).

The “15 Years of Metalheadz” album you have before you is a testament to the labels excellent back catalogue, with groundbreaking dancefloor hits such as Adam F’s “Metropolis”, John B’s “Up All Night” and the awesome “Pulp Fiction” by Alex Reece.

It’s been a rollercoaster of a ride, but Metalheadz has plenty more in store. Here’s to another 15 years!

***

Metalheadz are celebrating their 15th Birthday on Friday November 20th at The Arches in London Bridge (where they’ll be doing 4 parties a year from now on). The stellar line up includes Goldie, Fabio, Randall, Storm, Commix, Spectrasoul, Jubei, Lenzman, Spor, Marc Mac, Jumping Jack Frost, Breakage and Flight, with MC support from Rage, Moose, Fozz. Please get in touch for more info or guestlist…

TITLE: My New Remixes / ARTIST: Alex Gopher / LABEL: Go4Music / RELEASE DATE: 30th November 2009

Alex Gopher entered the French music scene in a pop band known as Orange, a band that featured future stars Etienne de Crécy and both members of the band Air. After the band’s breakup, Alex collaborated with Etienne de Crécy and Air on future projects but made a name for himself with “You, My Baby, And I”, an album that combined elements of funk, house, and electronica.

In 2001, he was asked by designer Yves St. Laurent for three tracks to use for their Yves’ catwalk show. Alex ended up composing ten tracks, asking French underground artist, Demon, to give the music a more “clubbier” feeling. The end result was a critically acclaimed album titled “Wuz,” which used elements found in “You, My Baby, and I” but had its own distinct sound. He released his 3rd album “Alex Gopher” in 2007, as well as fifteen 12” records on Solid, Kitsuné and Go 4 Music.

His new album – “My New Remixes” – is a collection of the most recent remixes produced by this talented French musician, producer, and DJ. Since 1996, he has collaborated with artists from various backgrounds such as Jamiroquai, Vanessa Paradis, Mr Oizo, Erik Truffaz, Roy Davis Jr, Sly & Robbie, Zazie, Bob Sinclair, and Bootsy Collins, to name a few. The album before you features his most recent remixes, as well as previously unreleased material produced for Kraftwerk, IAM, Tocadisco, AutoKratz, Fischerspooner, Shinichi Osawa, WhoMadeWho, Benny Benassi, Ladyhawke, Dre Skull, Kid Sister and Dada Life. The album also includes “Ash Sync”, a previously unreleased track composed in collaboration by Air, Etienne de Crécy and Alex Gopher.

Coherent and powerful, the album “My New Remixes” is an invitation to rediscover today’s key artists in electro, hip-hop, and rock music which Alex has reworked with intensity and subtlety.

DJ Marky returns to the capital this month with a stellar lineup to showcase and launch the forthcoming compilation album entitled DJ Marky & Friends Presents: Makoto.

Following on from the original DJ Marky & Friends Presents series, started in 2007 by the man himself, Makoto brings his trademark sultry, smooth and genre defining mixing capabilities to a physical CD for the first time in what seems like eons!!

So what better way to promote the release of the album than to bring Makoto to London’s world famous fabric nightclub for a one off spectacular!

The lineup is nothing short of mind-blowing as the FabricLive Fridays continue with a sprinkling of truly global talent from quite literally the four corners of the globe.

The main room will see the likes of Hip Hop legends Freddie Foxx and Prince Paul (Gangstarr) perform a stellar live set, Gilles Peterson returns as Marky’s right hand man with a record box no doubt choc-a-bloc with fresh and funky World Music infusions, Makoto and Deeizm rough things up a little as they drown the crowd in a sea of dancefloor smashes laced with slick and harmonious vocals, before DJ Marky takes to the stage to complete the setup with some blistering tracks and tricks ready to set the floor alight!

E-mail simon@rocketsciencemedia.com for guest list requests
