Sitting firmly between soulful electronica and forward-thinking soundscapes, these two south-end on sea beat collaborators have found new pastures in the fields between Four Tet and Flying Lotus.

For this EP they have been lent a hand with remixes from luminaries in all strains of electronic music: Planet Mu’s skwee master and scene figurehead Eero Johannes takes the opening track ‘Sunflower’ and has created possibly the perfect remix: simple, engaging, quirky and emotive. Disgustingly deep new Darling of Dubstep and beyond Blue Daisy has produced a masterpiece with his tribal reworking of “Seven Uses of Potential Difference“. Lo Recording’s elusive Batfinks has created nothing more than a cosmic explosion with this work of uncontrollable techy delight. His remix of “Radiance Trigger” is a potent surprise and in a category of its own, incredibly intricate and continually surprising. Recue finishes the package with some classic early Warp/Mu electronic sounds delivered in a decidedly different and modern way.

These guys fall into the realm of beats, electronica, down-tempo, dubstep, soul, deep house and minimal, and draw comparisons to Nathan Fake, Flying Lotus, Four Tet, Martyn and Harmonic 313.

Mark McCann and Bart Van Dijk form June Miller, one of the most spoken about acts of 2009. Producing across the internet from London to Uterecht and back, the duo have set the scene on fire with their outstanding music and explosive DJ sets.

Converge :
Converge enters the arena with a stuttered vocal and skittering hi-hats sat alongside a sweeping pad. Dub like tones add atmosphere and melody as a perfectly executed funk break provides the flow. Things break down for a moment before a warm sub bass provides weight to the track, whist the pad is stripped back for a solid roll-out. Sweeps and midrange sneak in and out of the mix, giving things an edge without being over the top. Filters attack and twist up the beat in the later parts, providing a crisp contrast to the first section.

Neurosis :
Neurosis begins with haunting ride cymbals sat alongside epic film-like strings and atmosphere. Drum rolls ring out, giving an almost military air to the proceedings. Just when it sounds like all hell is going to break loose, everything gets swept back into a lush and floating string section. The drums break back in and provide a perfect accompaniment. If you like your music full of emotion and atmosphere, don’t miss out on Neurosis.

Hadouken! are back! With a new album and a single,  ‘Turn The Lights Out’ is an indicator of a harder direction the band have taken and the perfect taster for their second album.

Recorded alongside the album tracks with producers of the moment Noisia at their Groningen studios, the track melds a dark string section worthy of the Wu Tang at their finest to a low slung pure evil bassline and is a call to arms for clubbers, partiers and giggers the length and breadth of the UK.

Hadouken!’s return begun with their M.A.D track picking up huge coverage across Youtube, the official video featuring a rampaging mouse on the town shooting straight to the top of the viewed charts on site and registering near on half a million views to date. With uber blogger Shane Dawson taking the track for his Halloween special and adding millions more to that total, Hadouken’s return to prominence, and their position at the forefront of using the web to engage with their fans, continues apace.

Failed superhero Flash Atkins is back with the infectious Sweetshop for a second helping with some fresh remixes from the front line. Since the last EP, Flash has played live on The Fourth Plinth, and been filmed and interviewed on Sky by Clive Anderson as part of Anthony Gormley’s One and Other. He has also had the well-received Fags & Booze EP released on We Are Woodville featuring George Demure, Crazy P’s Danielle Moore and Sean Reveron.

First off, the original Sweetshop has been dusted down and zinged up with some pop nips and tucks. It’s got lo-fi bass, crunchy drums and snapping synths all topped of with 70s crooner Caspa Codina’s sleazy falsetto; it’s pop music with a knowing wink and impeccable 80s credentials.

Next up, producer of the hour Medasyn come fresh from masterminding Envy and Lady Sovereign to turn in a big room electro mix complete with crowd noises, dirty distorted basslines and 80s arpeggiators. There’s plenty of drops and attitude for maximum dancefloor impact.

Finally, Magik J does his hypnotic heads down thing with a vocal and dub suitable for those darker moments. The tracks mix up fidget, techno and house, guaranteeing full floors and thrown shapes.

Never losing sight of their background, the Brazilian-boys fuse the funky percussion with the gritty base perfectly – whatever your flavour, this needs to be in your record box.

Old school analogue production technique has been applied to give this tune a warm and driving edge, that seems to be missing in most computer based productions these days.

For the flipside, long time partner Rawfull joins DKay in the studio once again. “In Your Name” is a bit more minimalistic than other tunes by the duo also known as Illskillz. A deep but angry reese bassline and a hypnotic synth riff are the trademark sounds in this dreamy piece of music, that will excite both party goers and home listeners alike.
