mystics_ursula_1000_300x300TITLE: Mystics / ARTIST: Ursula 1000 / LABEL: ESL / RELEASE DATE: TBC 2009 / CAT NO: ESL143

ESL Music’s Ursula 1000 is the alter ego of Brooklyn based producer and DJ Alex Gimeno, whose albums and mix sessions have taken on a broad scope of retro-tinged spy grooves, bumping Latin disco-funk, post-punk electro, and sleazy glam-rock to name but a few… and he never stops evolving.

You can hear it in his remixes for the likes of Quincy Jones, Felix Da Housecat, The Faint, Fort Knox Five and a slew of television remodels for themes to Sesame Street, The Powerpuff Girls, The Incredibles and Yo Gabba Gabba. Scenes for Sex and the City, Grey’s Anatomy and Ugly Betty stand out with a pinch of Ursula, as have campaigns for AT&T, Samsung and Adidas.

His collaborations with Dr. Luke, Shag, Cristina, Los Amigos Invisibles, Misty Roses, Federico Aubele amongst others have brought forth sheer magic on his three previous albums: The Now Sound of Ursula 1000, Kinda’ Kinky and Here Comes Tomorrow. His mix albums All Systems Are Go Go and Ursadelica showed the world his DJ skills and an ear for the finest in hip-shaking grooves, while the remix album Undressed saw his tracks re-imagined by electronica’s finest: Deekline, Ladytron, Product.01, Malente and more.

His DJing takes him worldwide and sees him play at such illustrious venues as Fabric, The Big Chill Festival, Shambhala or even at his home residency at APT. From all of these he absorbs new experiences and turns out his turn-ons into a psychedelic brain stew… and from this brew we bring you Mystics.

This 12 track album returns from journeys into outer space to give us an epic collection of psychedelic sonic sorcery. Zig-zagging further away from the cheeky vintage breakbeat rumba of previous records, this time the Brooklyn beat-wizard ventures into tougher and more angular territory with the beats banging harder and the bass popping louder. Drawing from a variety of new influences and collaborations, Ursula 1000 delivers near-lethal doses of dirty booty breaks, gothic sexcapades, electro dancehall and disco-funk filth. At once playful and dangerous… Mystics is a cry to the stars.
