TITLE: The Jakes Project / ARTIST: Jakes / LABEL: D Style / RELEASE DATE: 6th July 2009

Jakes is many things to many people: to some he is the voice of TC’s smash hits Deep, Drink and Mindkiller; to others he is the Daddy of Bristolian dubstep crew H.E.N.C.H; and to musical historians he is one of the most intriguing vocalists that underground British music can lay claim to. Never afraid to break from tradition and roll with his own flow, Jakes’ voice has become one of the most recognisable in the game and his energetic live performances see him travelling across the globe, hitting raves from Bristol to Boston with his inimitable style.

As the founder of the H.E.N.C.H imprint, Jakes has been gaining widespread recognition as a dubstep producer in his own right. His huge bassline monsters, such as, 3KOUT, 2 Steps Back, Titan Dub and Warp 9 have featured in the sets of major dubstep players, including N-Type, Mary Anne Hobbs and Skream.

This year marks the release of the highly anticipated Jakes Project, a series of cross-scene pollination dubstep and D&B releases that are already causing a ruckus. The album contains Jakes’ own productions, as well as select collaborations with big-name producers. All About, Swerve and Haters see Jakes team up with his collaborative partner in crime, TC. We’re also treated to exclusive bonus tracks such as Gatekeeper (Jakes with RAM RecordsXample) and Jakes’ own dubstep releases, Calypso and Urbz.

The series is set to be released on vinyl format in 4 volumes, split across both the H.E.N.C.H and D Style imprints. Haters, Swerve, Rock Tha Bells, Warface, All About, Warface (D*Minds Remix), Custard Cream and In Tha Place To Be will all be included.

Mixing up his trademark D&B badness with bass-heavy, jaw-dropping dubstep tunes, straight from the heart of the Bristol dubstep vibe, The Jakes Project is being championed by many of the scene’s key tastemakers, including: Skream, Rusko, Benga, N-Type, Hype, Adam F, Andy C, Grooverider, Friction, Roni Size, Chase & Status, Danny Byrd, Pendulum, The Scratch Perverts, Marky, Fabio, and Clipz.
