“Born With Teeth” – Crowhead (ATIC) [ALBUM] May 28, 2009Posted by rocketsciencemedia in Press Releases.
Born in Salford, 1975, Crowhead caught the dance music bug aged 15. His first real obsession was with break-beat hardcore and before long he was collecting flyers, travelling to warehouse parties and blowing all his cash at Manchester’s Spin Inn and Eastern Bloc record stores. At 19, a friend passed him a copy of Ultimate Breaks and Beats Vol. 9, and that, as they say, was that. Breaks were the new vice and he was now a collector of rare funk, soul, rock and disco records.
Almost inevitably, he connected with Fat City Records and began promoting their club night Counter Culture, which morphed into the legendary (and still going strong) Friends and Family. In 2003 he signed a deal with the now defunct Grand Central Records, released two EP’s as The Nudge and started DJ’ing full time. He’s still a vinyl addict but, as he poetically puts it, he’s “not a fuckin’ nerd with it. Records are to be played with!”
In 2008 Crowhead signed to ATIC Records and immediately set about creating his debut LP, Born With Teeth. Hatched in ‘The Nest’ – his top floor recording studio based in Manchester’s rainy Northern Quarter – and mixed by Gripper at Aim’s Speed Limit Studios, the album is bass heavy and laced with vintage synths and dope samples. Along with his own dulcet tones, this future classic features guest vocals from an impressive array of talent including long time friend and associate MC Kwasi, Mikey D.O.N. (of Krispy fame), Milwaukee’s Rusty P’s and ATIC label mate Niko.
