TITLE: DJ Marky & Friends Presents: Makoto / ARTIST: Various / LABEL: Innerground / RELEASE DATE: 26th October 2009

Makoto‘s first encountered drum & bass while studying at Nippon University, Japan, after an upbringing absorbing classical, jazz, rare groove and soul. He was organising events and DJing in Tokyo clubs when he first came across LTJ Bukem’s seminal “Logical Progression” album and Goldie’s timeless “Inner City Life”. Hooked on the drum’n’bass sound, he began experimenting with a sequencer and an Akai sampler, and spent two years trying to re-create the U.K. drum’n’bass sound. Endless hours of exploration and several additions to his studio later, and Makoto was soon releasing records in his home country.

Encouraged by the enthusiastic response he received, he sent a demo track to Good Looking Records where he caught the attention of Bukem, who helped mentor him through his first release on the label: the luxuriously textured release “Wave“. Makoto signed a long-term contract and has since gone on to become one of Good Looking’s most prolific artists.

Makoto has proven himself to be an exciting, diverse producer time and time again, capable of outstanding live shows across the globe. Because of this he was a natural choice for Innerground Records in choosing the second compilation in their “DJ Marky & Friends Presents” series.

The result is a tight and upbeat selection of Innerground music, past, present and future, featuring esteemed artists such as Calibre and Logistics, some stunning tracks from up and comer S.P.Y, a few Marky & Makoto collaborations, and tracks from respected labels such as CIA and Human Elements.

Makoto’s smooth style and attention to detail compliment the Innerground catalogue immensely, and the result is a full bodied and well rounded mix that encompasses the many different faces of drum and bass today.
