Crowhead – aka Woody – is an unsung hero of Manchester’s underground club scene, having worked with Fat City for years promoting their ‘Counter Culture’ and ‘Friends & Family’ nights. An obsessive collector of rare and obscure vinyl, he’s DJ’d worldwide and released two singles as The Nudge on the now defunct Grand Central Records. In 2008 he signed to ATIC and immediately set about creating his debut LP, ‘Born With Teeth’, due for release on 12th October 2009.

This second single from the album sees Crowhead take to the mix on teh EP title track, The Bends, a faded tale of childhood holidays spent chasing sunshine over an 80s style electro-disco beat. Joining him for the hook is Niko, her trademark layered harmonies adding to the feeling of distance. Track 2, Tackle Lad, belies Crowhead‘s love of old school hardcore. It’s a non-LP exclusive that’s guaranteed to lift any dance-floor with it’s combination of massive synth bass lines and heavy break-beats. Last but not least, and another exclusive to the EP, is Broken Unit, a progressive hip-hop instrumental that bubbles and builds towards a shimmering acoustic guitar climax.
