TITLE: 10 Years of Technique / ARTIST: Various / LABEL: Technique / RELEASE DATE: 30th November 2009

There aren’t many labels in drum & bass – or indeed the rest of the industry – that can claim 10 years on the scene. Throughout jungle’s history, countless imprints have come and gone without leaving a lasting legacy. Only the strongest survive, and this year Technique Recordings joins that elite list, celebrating a decade on the dancefloor.

The brainchild of Drumsound & Bassline Smith, Technique Recordings (with its sister offshoot Worldwide Audio) has become one of the most consistent and successful imprints around. From the trio’s first single “Future Tech”, through the undisputed anthems “Junglist” (which reached number 60 in the national charts) and “Cold Turkey”, to recent smashes “Body Pump” and “Belly Dancer”, it’s maintained a constant presence on the world’s dancefloors, receiving rotation from most top DJs on the planet. The label is also home to exciting artists from throughout the globe such as Phetsta from Australia, and home-grown talents Youngman, Tantrum Desire and Technicolour.

To celebrate this landmark in their history, Derby’s finest have curated a very special album project. Across 15 tracks, “10 Years of Technique” gives you a flavour of why the label has continued to flourish, and showcases the myriad styles drum & bass has to offer, from heavy dancefloor smashers and sweet liquid funk, to house-inspired spine-tinglers and naughty nods back to old-school jungle’s history. Some of the labels biggest tracks have been given exclusive remixes, there are fresh tunes never heard before, and all members of the Technique family have provided their talents to make this an album for lovers of quality drum & bass in all its forms. Here’s to the next 10 years.

It promises to mark the labels birthday in spectacular fashion, and put down a marker for the next 10 years. Rest assured, Technique have only just gotten started.

TITLE: 15 Year of Metalheadz / ARTIST: Various / LABEL: Metalheads / RELEASE DATE: 30th November 2009

To many people, Metalheadz needs little introduction. The pioneering drum and bass record label was founded in 1993 by Doc Scott and Goldie, and has been home to some of the drum and bass scene’s brightest talent. The Metalheadz back catalogue features almost every major figure in the history of the genre, with artists such as Photek, Dillinja, Adam F, Source Direct, Ed Rush & Optical contributing major productions to the imprint.

Additionally, Metalheadz released the groundbreaking Platinum Breaks series of compilations, hailed by critics as the uniquely futuristic sound of young, multiracial Britain. They showcased a maturing genre of music that displayed the influences of reggae, hip-hop, house and techno that is highly-sophisticated and intricately-produced, and quite contrary to the image of the music that had been presented by the mass media up to that point. Before their release, drum and bass compilations had been more closely associated with live DJ mix albums of varying quality, and the interest in the Platimum Breaks series proved instrumental in bringing the scene from its underground origins to the brink of mainstream success (at least in the UK).

The “15 Years of Metalheadz” album you have before you is a testament to the labels excellent back catalogue, with groundbreaking dancefloor hits such as Adam F’s “Metropolis”, John B’s “Up All Night” and the awesome “Pulp Fiction” by Alex Reece.

It’s been a rollercoaster of a ride, but Metalheadz has plenty more in store. Here’s to another 15 years!

TITLE: My New Remixes / ARTIST: Alex Gopher / LABEL: Go4Music / RELEASE DATE: 30th November 2009

Alex Gopher entered the French music scene in a pop band known as Orange, a band that featured future stars Etienne de Crécy and both members of the band Air. After the band’s breakup, Alex collaborated with Etienne de Crécy and Air on future projects but made a name for himself with “You, My Baby, And I”, an album that combined elements of funk, house, and electronica.

In 2001, he was asked by designer Yves St. Laurent for three tracks to use for their Yves’ catwalk show. Alex ended up composing ten tracks, asking French underground artist, Demon, to give the music a more “clubbier” feeling. The end result was a critically acclaimed album titled “Wuz,” which used elements found in “You, My Baby, and I” but had its own distinct sound. He released his 3rd album “Alex Gopher” in 2007, as well as fifteen 12” records on Solid, Kitsuné and Go 4 Music.

His new album – “My New Remixes” – is a collection of the most recent remixes produced by this talented French musician, producer, and DJ. Since 1996, he has collaborated with artists from various backgrounds such as Jamiroquai, Vanessa Paradis, Mr Oizo, Erik Truffaz, Roy Davis Jr, Sly & Robbie, Zazie, Bob Sinclair, and Bootsy Collins, to name a few. The album before you features his most recent remixes, as well as previously unreleased material produced for Kraftwerk, IAM, Tocadisco, AutoKratz, Fischerspooner, Shinichi Osawa, WhoMadeWho, Benny Benassi, Ladyhawke, Dre Skull, Kid Sister and Dada Life. The album also includes “Ash Sync”, a previously unreleased track composed in collaboration by Air, Etienne de Crécy and Alex Gopher.

Coherent and powerful, the album “My New Remixes” is an invitation to rediscover today’s key artists in electro, hip-hop, and rock music which Alex has reworked with intensity and subtlety.
